Okay so I was a bit bored so I thought I'd post up and comment on the most viewed screencaps on the Animay Screencaps Gallery (pic below - sorry its big, if I dropped it down smaller it would be all fuzziefied)
Now although it may not seem like they have had huge hits, the gallery currently has 180,000+ screencaps to view (as at today), so viewing one screencap over 1000 times is probably pretty good.
The most viewed image has moved up the ranks since last year and has been sitting comfortably in the number one position for some time. Unfortunately for Atlanta its not Zaraki lol, but it is from
Bleach. This image actually appears twice in the gallery as they flashed it in another episode and silly ol May didn't take it out...>_> Anyway this scene as Atlanta will tell you, is where Grimmjow (the blue haired half nekkid guy) was about to attack Ichigo again when from out of nowhere pops Ulquiorra to stop him, hence the shocked look on his face. Just to note, Grimmjow was actually quite popular when he began appearing in the series - in relation to the screencaps posted on the site they were viewed first before any of the others and garnered more views than any other characters. Ulquiorra also has some popularity too (
) so whenever he appears he tends to get a lot of views as well. Its just sad now that he's not going to appear anymore
The 2nd, 3rd, 7th and 8th images are obviously from
Naruto Shippuuden's first double-episode, however the scene itself is a preview of a double episode which appears much later in the series (Ep 51/52). These images were the opening scenes set as a bit of a teaser for fans who were eager to get to this part of the series... ie when Sasuke first makes an appearance. The 2nd and 7th screencaps depict Sasuke telling Naruto that he is going to kill him, and the 8th is of Sasuke slowly withdrawing his sword. Naruto is still kind of in shock (as you would when one of your former teammates decides that he's going to kill you). The 3rd most viewed screencap is of Sai, the new recruit who replaced Sasuke in Team 7 (but was also under orders to kill Sasuke) and Sakura who had just caught up with Sai when Sasuke makes his first appearance. Sasuke is very popular as you might gather, though the 2nd most popularly viewed character at the moment is Hinata.
The 4th and 6th most viewed screencaps are from
Vampire Knight - Zero Kiryuu and Kaname Kuran respectively. Let me tell you that when I was originally starting to put these images up, by the time I'd gotten to the end of uploading one episode, the album had been viewed 9-10 times already! The characters in this series were really popular (of course everyone loves bishi's! Especially angsty vampire ones!) so it wasn't at all surprising to see them in the top 8 most viewed. Zero is the angry, angsty 'I hate all vampires even though I'm becoming one' character, while Kaname is the cool, respected, over protective pureblood vampire character.
Now that 5th most viewed there is one that I can't really fathom as to why its popular but.. okay. The scene is from a flash back in
Naruto Shippuuden where Chiyo was talking about what happened to her grandson Sasori, who eventually became a member of Akatsuki (rogue ninja group). This image depicts a young sasori sleeping with his 'parents' - they are actually puppets as Sasori's real parents were killed. Chiyo had a puppetry ability as her ninja skill so she taught it to him. Again, I'm really not sure why this is a popular screencap but that's anime fans for you
Unfortunately this top 8 only depicts 3 series but obviously I do a lot more lol. Interestingly in most cases where new characters appear they do get a lot of hits until the more popular characters take over again. Naruto himself, as with Ichigo, are popular but not as much as a lot of the other characters in their respective series. Just goes to prove that the main character is not necessary the one everybody likes the most.
